I'm taking today as a day to kick back.
Woke late. The Lady at reception said she would take my clothes and wash and dry them (in their commercial set-up, since the normal machine for campers was broken down). And wouldn't accept any payment. (What are people coming to nowadays!) Thank you.
Tried a "normal" breaky, since I'd bought some litre(s) of real milk last night. A cuppa and bowl (well, small saucepan) of Nutrigrain. Maybe I should carry a packet of them for trail mix?
Breaky on the deck by the lake in the caravan park…
.
How's the serenity!
.
Might go for a wander into town? Or might do that this arvo, before I go in for a pub meal? Do a bit of thinking, reading, writing now, I reckon..
Got to talk with the receptionist lady's husband. They do these fill-in stints to help Caravan Park caretakers have a break. Like for 7months of the year. They love it. He just put a new BBQ in when the old one carked it.
.
The second couple I've met in a few days where when they married it was a BIG thing that they were from different Christian Denominations. One Catholic, and one Protestant. Now those old taboos have flipped on their head (like with smoking, or having a puff of marijuana), under the power of cultural change. Both kinds of churches have shut up in most country towns. The religion we got with our upbringing & culture, is almost gone. What a purging. But there is definitely still something spiritual in most of us, when we're scratched, below the surface bravado.
Rested, and responded to calls and texts. Thinking through with a friend, the difference between History Legend and Myth….
(Make a comment and tell me your email if you want to be included in a respectful, thoughtful conversation in a Google doc.)
About 4:15pm went for a walk, gotva drink at the pub. No meals here. Talked with a tanker driver who saw me yesterday and have advice sbout Boree Creek, Camping on the way to Lockhart, and trucks delivering grain… got a bit to think about tonight. Forgot to get a photo, but thanks mate!
Moved to the takeaway, bought aome rice and chockies, and a burger with the lot.
.
Edward Bennett met me at the TAKEAWAY & filled me in on Urana, what keeps it here, the farming (he works on a nearby farm), the lake, the place for events and weddings etc, the Caravan park, the Pub and this takeaway (since the IGA burnt down, so I'm guessing)
He got a local map for me…
.
And some nearby townships…
Then got a few cold sausage rolls from Adam, who served me.
.
And who also helped me realize that i could start on the Road to Lockhart, then decide which way to go before the turn off to Boree Creek about 10km out. Thanks Adam.
Back to my cabin at the van park.
Sure enough Julie has done all my washing, and dried it and laft it folded, under cover at my door.
My wife and 2 grand-daughters rang, then I went to say thanks, and could get a pic of both Julie (who did my washing) and her man Geoff, who are caretaking here, originally from Swan Hill.
They've made me very welcome here. They got this blogspot, & we said good night.
Hoping to be off around 7-8am (won't make it the 45km to Lockhart, probably have to camp on the way, or go through Boree Creek & add another >10km to the trip..)
