(forgot to take pics)
Interesting night. The pub was almost standing room only when I arrived. I ordered a pot (middie) of lightish beer, got my keys, took my gear to the room & had a shower, then put my feet up for 30 min. After that I wandered out to the bar again, ordered a "Chicken Parmi" & another drink, ans sat on my own in the dinning room. After dinner, on my request they made me a cup of tea, but wouldn't charge me for it. On my way back to my room I saw a piano, that was kind of in the hallway to the kitchen, and asked the serving lady passing by if I could have a play with it for 10 min? She said ok. It was pretty "in tune". By the time I popped back into the pub to say good night, & thanks, there was only 4 or 5 people left in the pub. (Eek, telling?) They asked if I wanted a beer, and i declined, then asked what I was doing. I told them it's a kind of a pilgrimage, like the Comino in Europe, & also "Going for a walk in "my" back yard, from bottom to top, to get a feel for my country, it's flora, fawna, geography, and people.", and recently, I added "Movember". I weakened and had another beer. Brad shouted it to me, and they let me in on a (dirt track) shortcut, Doctor's Road, that google didn't put in as a possible path for me, that would cut 3 or 4 km off my journey to Urana tomorrow, and give me less traffic to contend with. Even if i got stuck in the middle, the fellow said, he could come and get me. Ring Suzzie (who seemed to be the publican, who had originally taken my room order on the phone), she'll sort it out!
Brad said I really should get on Facebook with this walk. Then Suzzie asked for "one more" piano piece, offered another beer (which I had to refuse -gout, 3 middies might be about my limit for the night). I popped in to say good night, and she wanted "one more."
After that one, I snuck off to bed, & read up about Facebook events. Still not sure I could ride the bronco of the business orientation of Face-book, with it's use of "likes" & sharing of one's self, and one's story, as a sales pitch, somehow it seems the opposite of the mentor teacher from the First Century that I'm trying to learn from.
Good night.
I agree - Facebook may not be the best place to connect. It certainly has its pitfalls and annoyances, and often doesn't relfect our first century mentor.
