The meaning that comes back to us from life
seems something like the mirror of our souls.
If gratefully received - what goods are rife -
then something is created in the whole.
Between what is received, and what cannot
be taken in because there's too much to
take in, absorb (unless we've got some rot),
an image* then is formed. That's me and you.
And then we start to see the meaning of
life as we get to know it and find out;
It's made, develops, and created from
Life's choices, and our own, without a doubt.
And in this partnership, we aren't THE BOSS,
though we can make some choices, and we do,
the first step to make sense of things is loss
of concept that we are the first cause who
could tell each one around us what to do,
and question ev'ry motive 'round about,
as though we were the authors who'd renew
each person and each process to run out
of meaning, since we know all things that are,
and how they came about, and then will go.
The second step, to look and listen far
beyond the surface stuff, feel what we know!
And let a thankfulness, or gratefulness
grow in the garden that is my own life.
Allow that kind-a love, not hatefulness,
to make response in me, then meaning's rife!
* thinking here of light on an object forming a reflection, or image (say in a mirror brought into the equation, or in the retina of someone seeing the object) from an interplay of the light absorbed and reflected from the object; as an analogy for meaning being like a reflection, or image, formed from an interplay between what we accept and cannot accept of the stuff doled out to us (the cup we are given to drink) by life.
