Peninsula; Day 8:
Thursday 22May’25
At morning tea Ethan had seen his first freshwater croc. (~2m?) Sunning himself on the sand beside the water at the Moorhead overflow after the bridge.
Off again with Dave. We talked about fruit, tree and snake. By around 11 at a truck-pull-off region beside the road we found this ant hill, and pandanas palm.
Then off again…
Two water-stops after that and a lunch break at ~12.45km from our camp, @ ~12:45pm, then we drove another 8km to where we hope to camp for the evening, to put our camper up & have our midday beak, then drive me back in the late arvo to walk on to the camp site.
Today has been the sorest day for my feet, mostly I think the blisters sites…
I have to sing loudly to get going, and keep going. Amazing how that can help!
Afternoon, and after swim in crock-free creek, at around 5pm, I cared for my blisters and Ethan dropped Dave & me at the place we stopped before lunch. And we walked… past a paddock or “tombstones”:
These sort of things (& many many others) occupy us as we walk… What’s this (below)?
I think the black thing is an ant nest… but if so, why are the trees around it not burnt/blackened too?
We walked before dinner, Then ate the cheesy pasta Ethan had cooked for us. Yummy.
