Peninsula; Day two… from 27.5km from the Lakeland servo, to 5.5 km before Laura.

Friday 16 May 2025

Ethan was my walking partner today, and Dave did all the packing up of camp, passed us and met us with a cooked breaky and coffee 8 km down the track.

Ethan and I tried the idea of walking separately for an hour to think and sing etc., then we changed over who was carrying the pack. (Another advantage of having a walking partner!), had a visit to a creek where we watched for crocks, (Ethan had noted that it was only 1 foot deep and clear, and the cattle were there before we approached) and wet our shirts..  and went on towards breaky…

After breaky Dave showed me that he had made me a spot on walking stick, so I could throw one of my breaking down ones away. Thanks Dave. The walking sticks mean that I probably get half to 1 kilometre an hour more covered and my feet seem less sore too.

We attempted to start a new daily  tradition based on Neil’s Learning to Love group mentioned earlier. We’ll see how it goes. I facilitated today’s over breaky.

And we’re using a blessing at our partings, maybe we can experiment with it's wording too..

11am- 1:20pm next stint…

Arrived with Ethan at our lunch spot and Dave has coffee on and tuna spageti ready a few min later.

Started our Learning HESED (family/ covenant/ loyal love) group… & considering what Jesus said about I have not come to bring peace, but a sword” comparing what Simeon said to Mary “and a sword will pierce your soul”.

Then I took off about 2:50 pm, and David dropped Ethan off.. we were to walk till about 5 or till my walking stick leaning on a guide post.

We talked about that book in the bible called Job; which seems to me to almost be an anti-systematized-theology book.

Had a quick break at the entrance to the Aboriginal rock art place…

Still those orange  warning signs around….

We stopped briefly at the Split Rock Tour Car Park, where Dave found us. He's booked us in for 23 nights at the laura pub and camping grounds - they gave us a free site, & will keep the kitchen open till we arrive tonight.. so he'll pick us up at 7 on the way to town and we’ll make a mark where we got up to, and then come back there tomorrow, Walk on from there and then our driver wil pick us up from where we get to at the end of tomorrow, & we’ll go back to spend our Sunday there at Laura, as a rest day from walking.

Another ute stops to check on us and see that we don’t need a hand. Thanks men. They then drove off into the setting sun

around 6 pm.  One more hour of walking… ( oops, we left our day pack with Dave, and didn’t bring our head torches! Maybe we just have to get off the road when a car comes?

At about 7:07pm Dave arrived, and we left two of Ethan’s walking sticks on the side of the road to pick up tommorrow

At 7:20 we walked into the pub and ordered our meals and a drink,

29km today - we got 5.5km out of Laura)... Tomorrow we’ll start from there and walk into Laura for some breaky, then keep going.. see if we can do 29 km again!

Stewie(?) gave us a free unpowered camping spot for 3 or 4 nights. Although we missed out on Stumpies Parmy, we had the best Bangers and Mash, and he

and his bar-tender looked after us! Thanks mate!
