Slept well, up, dress, Dave takes a pic of Sam and I in the kitchen.
Sam cooks our porrige (& coffee).
We communicate with mates in Toowoomba (Bob & Randall) to see if a coffee could work - on the fly... It doesn't.
We pop in & see my brother for half an hour. Thanks for the cuppa Craig, and the conversation about Bourke engines and the the difference between combustion & detonation.
Off to the Gold Coast to have lunch with my Dad & Mum. Dave drives so I can write up this blog. Thanks Dave.
Lovely time. I borrow Dad's small UHF handhelds to take with us. He suggests a Satellite phone (instead?). Lovely lunch with amazing people, Dad, Mum, Dave.
We head back to Brisbane to my mate Neil's. An amazing bloke 10 yrs older than me, who mentored me during Uni days (for no money, for life), who lost his wife tragically 4 yrs ago, who now has an aggressive "incurable, & life-threatening" cancer. He welcomed me in for two nights (as he regains strength after 34 bouts of radiation therapy), and Dave will join his cousin for that time, then we're off North again Sunday arvo.
I join Neil as he joins the family he shares his house with for an early pizza night of conversation. "Pizza & Movies" the 6yr old and 3 yr old kids call it - after dinner they get to see Peppa pig etc, while the adults have an hour of adult conversation together. Real people talking richly. I am a lucky man indeed.
After that when the kids start their bed-time routine, we return upstairs and chat over a couple of drinks about real issues of faithfulness and growth and confusion and doubt and ways forward anyway. Moving away from ruthlessly loving power, to the kind (of) power of love. Thanks again Neil for sharing life.
