The plan
Up just before 5 & off by 5:30am.
Yes! On the road ~ 5:16am. But our camp is maybe 400m off the main road…so, now I'm starting back on the road at this point:
Amazingly since the Archer River Roadhouse, it has been bitumen all the way. . So I'm expecting that to change today. No moon just now, only starlight, but that’s enough to see the lines on the bitumen. I use the head torch when cars come, to make them feel secure, and not so much to have to stop for me. (Plus, in between cars, it's blue light to let animals know I’m coming)
A 4WD ute stops (the fellow is travelling from Weipa to Cairns) & asks “So what's happening?” and when I tell him that I’m heading to the Tip, he says “Well, you're getting closer.”. when I tell him I thought it would be dirt roads already, he says there is a fair bit of bitumen between here and Weipa, which is very good news for me, well for this leg. I thank the Islander bloke for stopping and saying G’day, & we move on as the stars disappear and blue curtain of the sky is drawn across to help us focus on our tasks down here during this day.
But it gets me thinking… makes me see that I have not untangled “Mapoon” from “the Tip”. But I think there is a priority. So, I think I’d better say I’m heading to Mapoon, & then, if I can make it, to New Mapoon at the Tip.”
I’ve thinking about BEING where I am. And made up a ditty to get it into me.
Life seems to me to involve the multi-tasking twin tasks of being present in the biggest story or picture; and at the same time being present to this smaller interlocation of atoms/molecules (matter) and energy around me that I'm walking through and looking at interacting with. I think I'm starting to see that sometimes I can’t do both at once as equal requirements. Now I see that the first one has to be the priority one, then the second one is given it's place of pre-eminence over all other worlds, and virtual realities, & tasks conjured in my head. But also, the order of the details at the time might change, depending on the tasks of the moment. (Eg. Listening to a conversation while driving at the speed limit on a good & well known road, & while navigating a difficulty on the road) Thanks creative love for every bit of help to understand…
I see an amazing little lookout detour with some great info on the Cape York Peninsula and get some photos…
Then at 7:30am the sun is up, but I am walking through fog.
How cool, in what looks like it could be a hot day
Breaky comes by around 8:15 and we are off again soon after 9am, and see a sign of things to come:
So about 9 km so far today, two more
Along the way at a toilet block we meet Dave & Lee-Ann who have been to the Tip and now doing the grey-nomad thing.
From Lemon-tree passage above Newcastle..
And met Paul James Granger who did the Camino couple of years ago and is doing this ride to the tip now, from... (was it) Brisbane?
We talked for a bit together and then part of ways. Dave took this photo of us. for me:
Walked on as usual… today with Dave. We listened to some audio book and discussed how things were going.
We wondered if the beans off these trees could be eaten, raw or cooked?
They look good! Later I find they're call bean trees, or Bohemia trees, and cattle love 'em.
Ethan had the water boiling when we arrived, then added the rice and two cans of mince and vegies… voila! Lovely meal. Thanks Ethan, and the maker of plants and animals (and humans too)...
After dinner Dave won another game of Tens. Then bed. ~28km today.
