Peninsula: Day 19, from ..km after Archer River, towards Weipa another … 26km?

Monday  02 June 2025

Up at 5am. Rats! Problems, so didn’t get onto the road till 6:15 am. Around 7:30am Peter & Abi stopped on the road to say G’day as they sped North. Fridge still working. Thanks for connecting again you two. (Missed another picture!, send us one to post here if you get time & do get to those Iron mountain ranges)

Just before 8am I see some sign of advancement:

But still [180km (to Weipa) + ~80km (further, to Mapoon)=] 260km to go…

after about 9 km of walking the car arrives & Dave shouts us all to a lovely breaky: Bacon & Egg rolls & Coffee. Then Ethan joined me walking & a few km on we came to this sign advertising something about 177km away:

Dave had warned us of a snake on the road 2 km further on. When we asked if is was alive or dead we got no response, but we didn't see it over the next few km, so it must have been alive.

Later in the arvy we did see a taipan alive in the middle of the road, with a light band around its middle… it may have been damaged by a vehicle, or shedding it's skin, not sure… but our shorts or sandle footware made us warey of it, so no pictures… sorry.

A lovely time of the day to walk, from 5 pm to sunset. To top it off a little bit of misty rain feel softly for half a minute to cool the place down. Thanks creative love. How beautiful to walk with such a partner.

The road is shaded by the trees on the left side of the road. The sun is still on the trees on the right, but the shadow is slowly working up them. Then the plan is that we get a drink from Dave with the car, change our hats for a head-torch and get another 4 km in while Dave cooks up some ribs and mashed (Deb) potato. Thanks Dave.

We found a camp-site at lunch beside a little running creek with a bit of shade. Lovely. And Ethan & I walked into camp that evening.
