From last night’s campsite (132km from Bramwell Station Roadhouse) towards the Jardine river ferry [42km to go at start of day]
Listened to the space trilogy while packing up and On the road at 5:50am…
Ash & Michelle who have just spent 5 nights up at Seisha & the Tip and are presumably (though I’m not sure) now heading back to where they are from (Wangaratta - N.E.Victoria) stopped to say G’day
and gave me some breaky of fruitcake and ..
Then I gave them the link to this blog, and we were off again (waving to their convoy car-van behind them). Thank you. Ash and Michelle, an experience of real mate-ship and of fair-dinkum-ness the more be yours today etc…
[I am learning to tune in to blessings for the people I meet, and especially those who initiate connecting to help. (You should try it, too! It is beautiful.)]
About 9:30am I got to do one more picture of one of Danni & Brooke’s kids, as they stopped.. ( I found about 4 more pieces of paper), as the drive on they gave me some CC’s so I stopped for a break(y), with 34km before the ferry. Thanks folk.
Russell and Angie (with Jimmy in the middle) stop on their way North, turn around and check I’m right for water etc.
Hoping to walk up to the tip this Arvo or tomorrow morning… walk well together. Good on you! Thanks for connecting and your checking.
Chris and Chrissy from the Hunter Valley NSW, stop to share water and a nut bar,
and say “You’re an inspiration”, while they inspire me with their determination to bless others themselves. May mate-ship, and fair-dinkum-ness be yours increasingly Chris, and Chrissy!
Then some locals from Bamagar who are working in Weipa and returning home for a visit stop and give me ame water and offer me some chewing gum. How thoughtful. Thanks men. The water was cold and good. (Missed a photo) Might see them in Bamagar, depending on how long they are up for.
Ian & David (&Harry); Two Grumpy Old Men Plus A Poodle on Instagram.
From Burnie in Taz, doing the tip, then across to Alice and back home by September… they don’t look “too grumpy” do they? To which they answered ..”Oh, ..we can be… ” travel well men.. Blessings of fairdinkum-ness and mate-ship!
Cameron, with the Heathland Rangers
Just stopping to check that I had what I needed. Thanks Cameron. Heading back to base till Friday. Had met our family friend Jane, when she was the Ranger Co-ordinator Mapoon ~ten years ago(?).
Travel well bro. Thrive in your heart for helping.
4:10 pm… Trolley's Driver's side Front tie rod arm broken, at 22km from Ferry, as I pull off to a bay for a sit down and look at map, in turn off bay.
Might be able to strap it… maybe not, it’s right beside the verticle bend in the axle…. Wisdom needed, please providence.
With my walking partner… I am secure. though I certainly felt a bit fearful 30 min ago.
20 km from the Jardine river ferry. Just broke this steering arm for the right hand front wheel.
I just bodged it up with lids of baked beans cans and sticky tape and i'm walking slowly towards the ferry. If it snaps i'll have to camp here for the night probably, If it keeps going i might get to the ferry around midnight or 4 am. The ferry starts at 8am, then it's 42 kilometres to Bamiga another 3 to New Mapoon and another 42 to the tip.. (42 really is the meaning to life! - joke for those who have contacted Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxi)
Been loving Lewis's Space Trilogy again (Audible). Near the end of book 2.
Tramp, tramp, tramp tramp.. The trolley has followed me now for half an hour. I just realised that my head torch will probably die before I can get to the ferry..the track is quite corrugated, but I dare not go off the track … that’s where I broke one steering arm
Then, just after I realized that I probably don’t NEED the trolley, if I take the back pack and tent, about 7:40pm the back left wheel fell off….
That is it lying flat on the ground and the axle lying on it. So, I Parked the trolley for Joe to pick up on his way up or with me on the way back…. Left some signage, & at 9:25pm I started walking with some clothes and a tent… see how we go…
Walking partner, please give me wisdom…
The moon is just shy of half and won’t set till after midnight, so I can do some without the torch.
I sing loudly, listen to some audio books, and get in by 1:20am, shower, put tent up. No sleeping insulation mat. I don’t get any sleep, my back and sides are too sore, so I lie till ~4am.. then charge my near-empty power pack in the toilet block, that has power. Thanks designers and owners of these facilities!
