Monday 23May2022 - Coolamon towards Temora

From Coolamon towards Temora

Franticly reallocating room in the trolley: new billy, have to leave old powdered milk tin billy. (thank you to Berrigan friends who gave up their powdered milk tin). New food supplies. A bit late getting out the front, but Graham generously still waited till ~7:37pm, then ran me and the trolley out to the spot he'd picked me up ftom Saturday arvo, then turned around and headed back to Coolamon. Thanks Graham.

Stayed on tar, instead of dirt lanes.

I've been loving looking at the world around me, but also through it, to bigger realities. Got me thinking about how metaphor works and how essential it is to use metaphore to talk about the most important things in life, so humans need to use metaphor to talk about the spiritual world. We normally call that religion. A bit scary.

My reflection is called metaphor: new world and religion

Dermot McCormack, going the other way in his ute, stopped and said "G'day! What's happening?"

.

He's on farms  both sides of the road a little bit back that I had passed.

We talked a bit about the rain, his work, my work. He told me a bit about the area. We were talking on the boundary line, between two shires, and the plaque on the corner showed something of the bustling settlement

.

the empty paddock on my right used to be, when it was Winchendon Vale, including school down the road.

.

.

Settlements, ways of life (the shearers who rode their steelframe pushbikes from property to property), and mechanisms (like rail transport in the country)  rise, have a hay day, and disappear.

I'm sure there's a parable there somewhere.

Stopped a little over half way to Temora (from where I started this morning after Graham dropped me off), so made it about 24km, that leaves about 23km tomorrow.

After putting up the tent…

Here it is looking at the tent then the road behind it:

.

And here it is standing closer to the road, looking at the tent then a track behind it  where I "boiled" the billy:

.

"boiled" the billy on the new stove. A bit slow, might have to adjust the stove a bit, but it worked.

.

And so did the billy and the panican.

.

A couple of great catch up phone calls with my lady in Orange, and a good mate in Cloncurry.

Wrote this up, & will post it.

Good night
