metaphor: a new world and religion

Well what's a metaphor if not to draw

us further down the track than we have been?

A window pane that lets you see some more.

To maybe woo to go where you have "seen".

You might just have to stand up, and walk out

to not be drugged by comfort where you are.

You might just have to start at whereabouts

you are just now, and might not get too far.

But something has to break inertia's hold.

And who knows better than creative love,

to help you stay connected, yet be bold,

to start to look through things like sky above.

And out into a bigger world again,

as exitting a dream and waking up,

to realer, more consistent world, with friend,

who counted on you not becoming stuck.

No argument can seize on metaphor.

It does not work that way. It will not do

to seize, or force, or bang upon a door,

that very action keeps it shut to you.

But if you'll start with your life, as it's lived,

not as you think that it should "oughta" be,

I bet you'll feel that sometimes you've been sieved,

or wrung out; they are special times you see.

A better "meta", overall world view,

might be to see it as a test that's shown

you where you're at, that others might see too.

As friends who've come to know as they are known.

Some followers of Jesus wanted to

cast fire down from heaven (lightning bolt?)

upon folk who rejected them & who

misjudged their motives. Jesus said to halt.

"You do not know what kind of spirit is

now prompting you to want to do this thing."

It didn't seem to be impelled by his

desire to help & bring folk to bles-sing.*

I think that in this case the metaphor

of spirit helped them stop dead in their tracks

and clarified a bigger world with more

inhabitants than our small system backs.

* And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, and sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him. And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem. And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village. Luke 9:51‭-‬56 KJV
