Walking Day 28.3 (Sun 7/7/24) from Valencia stud to "Kelly-doon" (not quite Clermont).

I got up, breakfast, packed, onto the road by ~seven thirty. Send a text to thank David for the place to camp last night and headed off in the cool with a warm sun poking through the clouds every 20 minutes or so. Towards Clermont.

I listened to some more of those Proverbs and re-listened to them and thought about them. Thought about how good that book was. How well the two books I finished yesterday went along with proverbs in appreciating an eastern mindset and worldview.

What a lovely day. Not so many cars today.

About 3 people stopped or slowed to check I was ok. “Red” (Adam) just stopped to check how I was going and offer a lift. Then headed in to Clermont…

He said he’d see me on the way back and maybe we could have a drink together. I hope that can happen. Thanks Red.

What amazing reading is that ancient Jewish wisdom book Qohelet (or Kohelet; often called ecclesiastes in English translations). It is showing the ephemeral of virtual nature of the whole of life and what we call Reality, and kind of poking holes in the “human left brain hemisphere's” kind of way of seeing reality as gaining profit for the self and showing that way of living or approach to life, is too insubstantial and isn't actually founded on evidence… it's kind of a circular thing within its own rationality and an interesting kind of Eastern-mindser refutation  to Western bureaucratic materialism -  wherever it shows itself in the commercial world of Employment out there (or the Christian church).

After a few phone calls a ute came towards me, slowed down, turned in front of me, and out popped Red with a couple of drinks. We talked for a while.

He’s had some tough things happen the last few years, but he had decided to enjoy what he could of life, most the most of what he had, and be grateful where he could for what he received. He was almost quoting that wisdom book I was listening to this morning. e.g.

Talk about things coming together.

As I was saying Good bye, Red reached into his car and pulled out some yummy hot beef patties, in a takeaway container, and said “Get into this while you walk.”

Ohh, thanks mate!

A few more phone calls to and from friends of my extended family, who apologized for not getting onto me sooner, they have been flat-chat helping run a 3 day camp for about 100 primary aged school kids “Kids Club - Extreme!” near Clermont, and this arvo they had a bush experience thing for the leaders, riding horses, motor bikes, and lighting fires. They came up with a plan, Josh could pick me & the trolley up in his ute in an hour, then I could join in for the arvo. Fantastic.

& for a pot luck dinner at their “Life Church” venue tonight. How good that was!

Gareth was sitting beside me, so I used him as a model… what do you reckon?

Thanks Gareth.

Then Josh & Lauren asked if I'd be ok sleeping on their spare bed tonight, to save me putting up my tent etc. How good is that.

A lovely pot luck dinner in town, and meeting a whole lot of new people. Kind, thoughtful, interesting and interested people. Then home, shower and some clothes washing, planning for breaky, shopping, & finish the walk to the big roundabout and get started on the next leg North. And some lovely tuning in with some brand new friends, who were like old family members. In fact I worked out that I had known both her parents 15 or 20 (?) yrs ago, & Lauren's Dad many (30?) yrs ago..

Thanks Josh & Lauren! Thanks creative love. How creative. How loyal and friend-inducing.
